Monopoly, Scrabble and other forms of deviance
As cyber space re embraces me I realise how dependent I have become on it, we take for granted high speed broad band instant down loads, digital photographs, the days of waiting for the post man or going to collect photographs from the chemist though were forcibly brought back to me for the last few weeks. This being Nigeria, I did not have the option of popping round to my local cyber cafe, I just festered. my trusted Mac Book Pro then developed a glitch, I could not go on line to repair or down load the up grade, I did however as a result re-discover Monopoly and Scrabble. This being Nigeria the Monopoly board was of course a forgery, it appears to be the Paris streets, however the cards do not mach the streets, some of the "Chance" cards and "Community Chest" cards relate to a completely different game, the instructions tell us to "Pass Go and collect $200" however the board is marked in the GO square collect $2000.
So to while away the hours we considered a real Nigerian Monopoly game. Using the streets of Port Harcourt, and what would be the appropriate cards. Obviously there would need to be a chance card "You have been Kidnapped by Militants sell all your property to pay your ransom" an other could read " You have successfully defrauded the bank collect 100,000, 000 Niara". Another might read, " You scrimped on building materials Your hotels have just collapsed pay compensation to the victims families" and so forth. My Favourite one was though " You have been elected state governor attempt to steal as much as possible from the players if they turn their backs".
Cynical? perhaps.

BACK IN ACTION
It has been a long while since I was able to post. That is not to say that nothing has been happening, simply that some one seem s to have stuck the bucket of an excatvator through the MTN cables that carry most of the internet out of Port Harcourt. I have been locked into a world where comunication beyond PH was limited to a temremental Blackberry. However it appears things are back in order.
