The recent escalation in violence in the Niger Delta, which resulted in the killing of two seamen and the return of MEND to armed resistance and kidnapping is evidence that the legacy of Biaffra is far from over, and that the ethnic conflict and official corruption that launched " A Woman OF Africa" are as real today as ever. Not long a go a burnt out vessel( Picture attached) ,believed to have been smuggling contraband crude, was washed up on my favourite surf spot ( just south of the disputed Bakasi Peninsula), the beach is only accessible after passing through and armed check point.
Every day along the West Coast of Africa Women set out for the Port Cities, hoping to make a living, and set foot on the path of "A Woman of Africa", the end of the oil slump is already making the risks of that journey seem all the more worth while. Last week I came off a FSO ( fixed tanker) mored in sight of the Cameroonian coast that pumps over $76,000,000 every five days in a country where a good wage is $80 per month.........
